Safety & Community Guidelines
Meet Travel Friends is where strangers become friends. That only works when everyone feels safe and respected. These guidelines explain how to protect yourself and what we expect from every member.
In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number first. Then report the situation to us.
What we do and don't do
We review reports, remove content and members who break our rules, and give you tools to report and block people.
We do not run background checks, verify identities, or inspect events. Meet Travel Friends does not organize, attend, or supervise events. Your safety depends on your own judgment, so use these guidelines every time.
Before you meet
- Look at the member's profile: photos, how long they've been a member, the communities they're in, and the events they've hosted or joined.
- Keep conversations on Meet Travel Friends until you feel comfortable. Be cautious of anyone who pushes to move to another app right away.
- Video chat before meeting one-on-one.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, you don't owe anyone an explanation. Decline, block, and report.
Your first meetup
- Meet in a busy public place, like a café, trailhead parking lot, or group event.
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.
- Arrange your own transportation so you can leave whenever you want.
- Keep your phone charged and your belongings with you.
- Drink responsibly and never leave a drink unattended.
Traveling together
Overnight and international trips need more trust than a coffee meetup. Build that trust first with shorter outings.
- Share your full itinerary, including flights, hotels, and the names of your travel companions, with someone you trust.
- Book your own room, or make sure you're comfortable with sleeping arrangements before you go.
- Keep your own passport, ID, and payment cards. Never hand them to another traveler to hold.
- Carry enough money or credit to get home on your own if plans fall apart.
- Consider travel insurance, and know the local emergency number and nearest embassy when traveling abroad.
Outdoor and adventure activities
- Be honest about your fitness and experience level, and ask about the difficulty before you commit.
- Ask the host about the route, timing, gear, and what happens if the weather turns.
- Bring your own water, food, first-aid basics, and appropriate gear.
- Tell someone outside the group your route and expected return time.
Paying for trips and events
Hosts collect payment directly, so protect yourself before you pay.
- Get the details in writing: what's included, total cost, dates, and the host's cancellation and refund policy.
- Ask hosts of paid trips about permits and insurance.
- Pay with a method that offers buyer protection, such as a credit card.
- Never pay with wire transfers, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or payment apps meant for friends and family.
Spotting scams
Report anyone who:
- Asks you for money, a loan, or help with an emergency
- Pitches an investment, cryptocurrency, or business opportunity
- Pressures you to decide or pay quickly
- Asks for your passport number, bank details, Social Security number, or home address
- Has a profile or story that doesn't add up
Community guidelines
Every member agrees to these standards:
- Be real. Use your own photos and honest information. No fake profiles or impersonation.
- Be respectful. Treat everyone with kindness, whatever their background, identity, age, or travel style. Harassment, threats, and hateful conduct are not allowed.
- Respect boundaries. No means no, online and in person. Don't pressure anyone to share personal information, drink, or do anything they're uncomfortable with.
- Keep it about friendship. Meet Travel Friends is not a dating site or a sales channel. No romantic pursuit, sales pitches, MLM, or recruiting.
- Honor commitments. Show up when you say you will. If plans change, cancel as early as possible.
- Travel responsibly. Respect local laws, cultures, communities, and the environment. Leave places better than you found them.
Guidelines for hosts
Hosts set the tone for every event. If you host, you agree to:
- Describe your event accurately, including location, difficulty, costs, and what's included.
- State your cancellation and refund policy before anyone pays.
- Get any permits and insurance your event requires.
- Plan for safety: know the route or venue, have an emergency plan, and share key details with attendees.
- Keep group size manageable for the activity.
- Communicate changes or cancellations as early as possible.
- If you block someone who has paid for your event, you're still responsible for any refund or changes they're owed. Contact support@meettravelfriends.com and we'll help.
Report a problem
Use the Report button on any profile, event, comment, or message. You can also email support@meettravelfriends.com with the member's name, what happened, and any screenshots.
Use the Block button to stop a member from contacting you or seeing your profile and events.
We review every report as quickly as we can. Depending on what we find, we may remove content, suspend or close accounts, or contact law enforcement when required. We don't tell the reported member who reported them.
These guidelines are part of our Terms of Service. Breaking them can lead to removal from Meet Travel Friends.
