How to Make New Friends as an Adult Through Activities and Travel

Remember when making friends was easy?
You sat next to someone in class, played together at recess, and suddenly you were best friends.
Then adulthood happened.
Between work, family, and everyone's busy schedules, meeting new people got a whole lot harder. And here's something interesting: you can have wonderful friends and still wish you had more people to do things with.
Sometimes it's not about having more friends
Maybe you have friends you've known for decades, but none of them enjoy hiking.
Maybe you love skiing and snowboarding, but your friends would rather spend weekends somewhere warm.
Or maybe you've always wanted to see another country, but everyone you know has a different idea of the perfect vacation.
Does that mean you should give up those experiences? Absolutely not!
Find friends through shared interests
One of my favorite ways to connect with people is through activities.
Think about it. When you're hiking up a mountain, learning to snowboard, or exploring a new place together, conversation happens naturally. You already have something in common!
Sometimes that's all it takes to start a friendship. You don't need the same career, background, or life story. You just need a little curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to say hello.
From shared activities to lasting friendships
Friendships don't always happen overnight.
Sometimes they start with a simple conversation at a group event. Then another hike. Maybe dinner afterward. Eventually, someone suggests a weekend getaway.
Before you know it, you've found your people.
That's the kind of connection I'd love to see more of in the world. At Meet Travel Friends, our goal is to bring people together through the things they love doing, from local outdoor adventures to trips around the world.
Because making new friends shouldn't stop when we grow up.
And neither should our sense of adventure!

Frequently asked questions
Why is it so hard to make friends as an adult?
Work, family, and busy schedules leave fewer natural places to meet people, like school once did. Shared activities bring those chances back.
What are the best activities for meeting new people?
Group hikes, ski and snowboard meetups, wine and food tours, running groups, and group trips. Anything where conversation happens naturally.
Can I make friends after 40?
Absolutely. Many adults find new friends in their 40s, 50s, and beyond through activity groups and travel.
